Innovation Day at DFKI: Advances in the Intelligent Networks (IN) Research Area at SmartFactory KL

24.09.2024

On September 10th, Innovation Day took place at DFKI in Kaiserslautern, focusing on the research area of Intelligent Networks (IN) within SmartFactory KL. The event, held annually, serves to showcase new research results and innovations.

Various groups of participants toured the SmartFactory and had the opportunity to attend presentations where current research findings and new innovations were introduced. A particular highlight of the day was the presentation by Christoph Fischer and Dennis Salzmann on the topic of digital twins.

The two researchers explained how digital twins can be used in the connected production of the future to leverage real-time data and dynamically optimize production processes. Accompanying their talk, they presented a demonstrator that showcased the digital twin of a production facility on a large screen in the background. This screen visualized in real time how the physical facility was connected to its digital counterpart and how data could be used for monitoring and controlling the machines.

Participants were not only able to ask questions but also experience live how the digital twin simulated changes in the facility and responded to potential failures or optimizations. This presentation impressively demonstrated how SmartFactory KL and the use of intelligent networks will shape the future of connected and flexible production.
