In April 2024, the 11th Medical Technology Industry Day took place in Rhineland-Palatinate, which focused on forward-looking developments in the industry under the theme "Digital solutions for the medical technology of tomorrow".
A prominent topic at this year’s industry day was the role of the sixth generation of mobile communications (6G) as a game changer in the healthcare sector. Various presentations and discussion panels explored how 6G technologies can revolutionize medical technology.
Christoph Lipps gave an overview of the tasks and structures of the 6G Platform Germany. He also presented the activities of the “Living Lab Open6GHub” and gave an outlook on research in the field of 6G health. The future mobile communications standard will create technological opportunities, such as continuous monitoring, the collection, processing and transmission of various biological and physiological body characteristics as well as the implementation of the vision of the “smart hospital” and the digitalization of hospitals.
